Risk For Breast Cancer In Black Women Triples.

It's an affliction every woman thinks about at some time, African-American women in particular.

But according to a well-known expert on breast cancer surgery, it's a malady that can be controlled - and avoided.

Dr. Edwin T. Johnson, a semiretired surgeon from Montgomery, Ala., was in Chicago for the national Medical Association Convention recently and discussed breast cancer in relation to African-American women and the importance of mammograms.

Saying that breast cancer is the number one cancer type in African-American women, he also noted that one in eight African-American women is at risk of getting it, at a younger age than white women.
