Blacks in the Highway Patrol have established a progressive history
It was a clear, sunny day on August 1, 1955, and the 44th class of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was about to convene. As the new recruits stood at attention outside the Hartman Farms Training Camp, there was a noticeable difference in this group of recruits. Two black faces stood out in the crowd, ready to embark upon a challenge that only one had attempted before them.
One of these faces belonged to Louis D. Sharp, a Columbus East and Florida A&M graduate. After two weeks of training, Lou Sharp's counterpart could not withstand the rigid demands and dropped out of the training, despite pleas from Sharp to continue. ...
