News and Views: Virginia Tech Struggles With Racial Diversity
Recently some undergraduate history students at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) were innocently thumbing through the yellowed pages of an ancient 1896 Virginia Tech yearbook. Along with accounts of other clubs and social organizations on campus, they came upon a yearbook page devoted to members of a turn-of-the-century campus group called the Ku Klux Klan.
Featured on the KKK yearbook page was one Claudius Lee, a student and editor of the yearbook who was named in the yearbook as the KKK's "Father of Terror." Lee was also identified as a member of the Pittsylvania Club, a group whose logo ...
