News and Views: A JBHE Report Card on the Progress of Black Faculty at the Nation's Leading Universities
JBHE has conducted a survey to determine the number of black faculty at the nation's highest-ranked universities. We found that overall there are 1,488 full-time black faculty at these institutions. Blacks make up 3.4 percent of the 43,374 full-time faculty at these highly rated universities.(*) This figure is significantly less than the nationwide percentage of all black faculty, which stands at 4.9 percent.(**)
