Vital Signs: Black Graduation Rates at Liberal Arts Colleges, State. Universities, and Black Colleges
In 1996, nationwide, 28 colleges and universities had a black graduation rate of 70 percent or higher. Fifteen of these were among the nation's 25 highest-ranked universities. Among the other 13 institutions with high black graduation rates, the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, posted the highest rate with 87 percent. The white graduation rate at Holy Cross is 93 percent. Many of the nation's most prestigious liberal arts colleges such as Amherst, Swarthmore, and Williams also have black graduation rates approaching 90 percent.
