Vital Signs: Black Graduation Rates at Flagship State Universities and Historically Black Colleges
Despite race-sensitive admissions programs prevailing at most of the highly regarded state universities, black student college completion rates tend to be higher at the state universities with the strongest academic reputations. The black graduation rate of 85 percent at the University of Virginia is nearly 20 percentage points higher than at any other state university in America. In fact, the black graduation rate at UVA is higher than at three Ivy League colleges: Columbia, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania.
