As every schoolchild knows, he was the son of the nation's second President, John Adams. John Quincy Adams was also a U.S. senator from Massachusetts and an ambassador to Holland, Prussia, Portugal, Russia, and England. Adams successfully negotiated the treaty that ended the War of 1812.
