News and Views: Demeaning Stereotypes; Ebony's List of the Most Influential Black Americans
Once again, the editors of Ebony magazine have compiled their annual list of the 100 most influential black Americans. Amazingly, the nation's great black scholars, academics, and public intellectuals almost never make the cut.
In past issues of JBHE we have noted that black scholars, educators, and intellectuals are routinely missing from Ebony magazine's annual list of influential African Americans.(*) As far back as one can remember, Ebony has been far more interested in honoring African-American beauty queens, black Shriners, and obscure politicians than the people charged with bringing ...
