News and Views: The Status of Black Faculty at America's Highest-Ranked. Universities
Blacks now make up 3.1 percent of all full-time faculty at the nation's 25 highest-ranked universities. Nationwide blacks make up the largest percentage of the total full-time faculty at Emory University. Bringing up the rear are Rice, Carnegie Mellon, and CalTech.
JBHE has conducted a survey to determine the number of black faculty at the nation's 25 highest-ranked universities. We found that overall there are 1,084 full-time black faculty at these institutions. Blacks make up slightly more than 3 percent of the 35,414 full-time faculty at these highly rated universities.
