The legend of San Juan de Los Caballeros
This is another of Frank Applegate's tales about when the Spanish first arrived in New Mexico. It is called "San Juan De Los Caballeros." Applegate was an outspoken Bohana (White) on the numerous atrocities perpetrated against Native peoples in the American southwest. He not only was accepted by the Pueblo people, but observed and wrote stories about the tribes and the land.
The people looked up and pointed, calling out as the entire village ran towards the hill overlooking the Rio Grande River.
