Calgarian wins National Aboriginal Achievement Award
WINNIPEG -- Calgary-based healer Rose Auger was the only person from Alberta in the spotlight at the National Aboriginal Achievement Awards in Winnipeg on April 10. Auger, whose traditional Cree name means "Woman Who Stands Strong," was among the 14 individuals honored at the third-annual awards ceremony, held at the Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall.
For the past 25 years, Auger has worked with Aboriginal offenders inside and outside Canada's prisons. Bringing juvenile offenders closer to the earth, their heritage and themselves has been her special focus.
