REV. AL SHARPTON'S candidacy will bring excitement to next year's presidential election, Caribbean American leaders say.

"He'll bring a new spirit to the campaign," said Assemblyman Nick Perry.

"He'll champion the cause of immigrants," said Dr. Marco Mason of the Caribbean Women's Health Association.

There was no brass band announcement for Sharpton's run for the White House. Instead, his candidacy was declared when he filed a campaign finance report. Initially, his supporters said the activist minister was only exploring the possibility of running.

In the report, Sharpton said he has collected $114,456.
