Such planning really is possible. A modular package using common software can play a key part in achieving it.
People usually relate production planning to manufacturing plants, not pilot plants. After all, the main roles of conventional pilot plants are to carry out scale-up studies, collect data, and handle other process-development activities. But, pharmaceutical pilot plants, unlike other pilot plants, also must supply chemicals for the safety and clinical studies required for drug development (1). So, for such pilot plants, effective production planning can have a big impact.
