In Punch-Drunk Love, the new film from director PT Anderson (Magnolia, Boogie Nights), Adam Sandler plays Barry Egan, the mumbling, childlike owner of a business that sells novelty toilet plungers. The blame for Barry's stunted emotional growth falls, at least in part, to his seven sisters. We get the impression that Barry has never been anything more than an object of mockery for this gaggle of harpies. One of them works with a woman named Lena Leonard (Emily Watson), who takes to Barry despite his pathological dishonesty, propensity for violent eruptions and odd preoccupation with a marketing scheme to sell pudding.
