Synthetic Fiber Makers Report Gains for Fiscal First Half

The business performance of seven Japanese synthetic fiber producers for the six-month period ending in September 2003 showed increases in sales and profits on a consolidated basis. Most of the producers say that profits improve for their fiber & textile business, but the polyester fiber business remained unprofitable for most of them with the exception of Toray Industries, Inc.
