Hearing screening as currently practised can produce unsatisfactory results for many health visitors and their clients. The authors report on a project to improve the quality and outcomes of the process
Fourteen full and part-time health visitors working for Severn NHS Trust are currently involved on the west Gloucestershire universal neonatal screening project. The aim is for health visitors to screen babies in the community using oto acoustic emission (OAE) to identify how accurate this screening test is and health visitors' effectiveness in carrying it out.
