Abdominal belts, devices designed to produce a flat, muscular stomach without exercise, have not lived up to their hype and promotion for increasing abdominal strength.
John Porcari, exercise physiologist at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, tested several belts for the, Federal Trade Commission, which took court action in 2002 against companies that marketed three brands of abdominal strengthexercise belts, Ab Energizer, Abtronic and Fast Abs, claiming the companies made false claims about the belts. The ab belts were eventually removed from the market.
