James appointed first Black Beaver County judge

BEAVER FALLS--It took approximately 200 years, but as soon as the oath of office is taken, it will be official. The Court of Common Pleas of Beaver County will have its first African-American judge.

History was made Nov. 17 when attorney George E. "Tookie" James was unanimously confirmed by the state Senate to fill a vacancy in the Beaver County court. There were a total of five judicial nominees--three Democrats, including James, and two Republicans.
