The recent NAPM conference showed that buyers in the US focus mainly on manufacturing, says David Hewitt
There were several striking things about the recent US National Association of Purchasing Management's (NAPM) conference in New Orleans. For a start, it attracted more than 3,200 delegates, around 7 per cent of the NAPM's membership. CIPS would need a gathering approaching 1,900 to emulate it. Second, it got Tom Peters, the author of key management text In Search of Excellence, to address the enthralled throng. And a bravura performance it was, too.
