Article: Anger over lack of training for N. Ireland school nurses

Northern Ireland's school nurses seeking to tackle teenage pregnancy are being held back by Lack of training opportunities, a CPHVA Belfast conference heard.

While most of their colleagues elsewhere in the UK have specialist training, only one in 100 Northern Ireland school nurses possess the relevant qualification, said CPHVA professional officer for school nursing and public health, Pat Jackson.

Ms Jackson called for a one-year degree level course for school nurses. Currently, most school nurses hold a health education certificate or its equivalent.
