CHARLESTON - West Virginia is in need of a few good pharmacists and the University of Charleston-is answering the call.
UC officials have begun to outline their plans for a new pharmacy doctoral program. Currently, West Virginia University has the only pharmacy school in the state. Last year, 240 students applied for 80 positions in the WVU program.
"WVU has more applicants than it can handle," said UC President Ed Welch. "In the next 16 years, this country is going to need 528,000 pharmacists to meet growing demands, and there are only 89 pharmacy schools to produce them.
