Gore is unprepared and unwilling to lead the nation toward the kind of serious reforms necessary to address the long-term crisis in Social Security.
For the last eight years, Gore and Clinton have deliberately chosen not to confront the hard choices, not to speak candidly about the program's enormous unfunded liabilities, and not to attempt a bipartisan effort to fix the real problem.
Instead they have sought, in the best tradition of partisan liberal Democrats, to use Social Security as a wedge issue upon which to score political points. They have offered what they suggest are "solutions" (but which really are not), and have charged their political opponents with wanting to destroy the ...
