Braves RHP, 6-1/185, Rookie
Jason Marquis hoped for a September call-up from Class AA Greenville, but his first trip to the majors arrived well ahead of schedule.
With the Braves' bullpen hampered by injuries and John Rocker unable to regain command of his fastball, Marquis, 21, was called up June 5, and he has flourished.
Though he had started since the Braves made him a special selection between the first and second rounds of the 1996 draft, Marquis has made a solid transition to the bullpen. In 10 games, he's 1-0 with a stingy 1.50 ERA. Hitters have managed only a paltry .180 average against him.
