It's noon on a Monday, and all around the metropolitan New Orleans area folks are sitting down to the traditional lunch . . . a plate of red beans and rice. Around town as well, pots of red beans are simmering on stove tops in preparation for supper time. As for endocrinologist Samuel Andrews, well, he'll have his red beans solo, without the rice, thank you very much.
One would expect just that from Andrews, one of four co--developers of the popular Sugar Busters! diet. White rice, according to the diet's parameters, is on the "no" list -- too insulin--producing and full of refined sugar.
