Ipek Kagit in Turkey is doubling its tissue production capacity to take advantage of the growth markets in southern Europe

With European tissue production reaching new highs, starting up a new machine in a highly competitive market might not seem the wisest of moves. But the Turkish tissue manufacturer, Ipek Kagit, has done just that.

The company, jointly-owned by US-based Fort James and Turkey's Eczacibasi Holdings, started up a new 50,000 ton/yr tissue machine in May. The $60 million Beloit machine is Ipek Kagit's third and increases the plant's total capacity by 135% to 87,000 tons/yr.
