Marriage Contracts
IT IS AS WELL to consider how the role of the state has served to bring the institution of marriage into disrepair and probable total collapse.
Marriage - usually monogamous - has been found to be a satisfactory means of existence for most cultures. In particular it was used to regulate people's sexuality, the proper rearing of children and the financial relationships between the parties. In the past this institution was reinforced on three sides by the state, the church and society pressure. This is not to imply that relationships were in any way perfect; just that the institution was tightly supported.
