REPUBLICAN LEADERS MEET WITH AMERICAN MUSLIMS

Representatives of the American Muslim community met Jan. 21, 2001 with conservative activists and elected officials to discuss topics ranging from ending both the economic sanctions on Iraq and the use of secret evidence, to the hiring of qualified Muslim applicants for posts in the Bush administration. The Islamic Institute in Washington, DC sponsored the meeting the day after President Bush's inaugural address, in which he referred to American Muslims. The president said: "Church and charity, synagogue and mosque, lend our communities their humanity, and they will have an honored place in our plans and in our laws."
