Article: Defender commits to supporting AIDS Foundation marathon

Chicago Defender Publisher David Milliner put it bluntly last Monday to officials of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Foundation planner David Munar and Foundation Marathon coach Ginger Williams were describing to the paper plans for next fall's National AIDS 26.2-mile fundraising run when Milliner got specific.

"It is our duty to show the way to the community," he said of the Defender's mission.

"We have a lot of concerns about what is being done in behalf of African Americans, and one of them is why so few pharmaceutical companies are participating. We believe they can contribute more in the form of a visible media campaign," he said.
