Article: Steak n Shake to get parent's full attention

Consolidated Products Inc.'s recent decision to shed its specialty restaurants division will end a 15-year diversification experiment at the locally based company.

That experiment saw Consolidated, which owns the Steak n Shake chain, tinker with a multitude of casual dining concepts-from the Hardwood Grill and Snaxx Fifth Avenue to Gold Rush and Carlos Sweeney's.

Those names have come and gone, but the Steak n Shake brand has endured, convincing the company it was time to concentrate on what it does best.

"Steak n Shake has been our vehicle for growth and that's where we intend to focus our attention," company spokesman Victor Yeandel said.
