HAZELTON - Preston County residents will soon witness a $129 million investment in the rural community of Hazelton, which currently boasts a population of fewer than 100 people.
U.S. Rep. Alan B. Mollohan and Sen. Robert C. Byrd, both D-W.Va., announced earlier this month the six-figure contract, awarded to P.J. Dick Inc., of West Mifflin, Pa., for the construction of a new federal prison at a 925-acre site in Hazelton.
Construction of the new prison is expected to commence in 2001, and when completed, the prison will have an annual operating budget of $25 million.
"As long as it is in the county, we expect that there will be people employed." said Ron Crites, Preston County Commissioner. ...
