DUST MITES CAN RUN, but a new computer modeling technique aims to ensure that they can't hide.
The computer model demonstrates for homeowners how modifying their domestic environment can reduce the number of dust mites in beds, carpets, and elsewhere. According to researchers, it could lead to a new way of controlling the mites that can trigger asthmatic and allergic symptoms.
Researchers at the University College of London and at Cambridge University in England, with funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council of Swindon, England, developed the model. Professor Tadj Oreszczyn of the University College of London leads the initiative.
