Yarn tension and contact pressure are the two process parameters with the greatest influence on the attributes of a package of staple fiber yarn. The integration of these parameters into a closed control loop is a prerequisite for precise adherence to the pre-set values and maintaining uniformly high package quality. Schlafhorst set a new standard with its introduction almost three years ago of the "Autotense" yarn tension control system. On the basis of this positive experience, ITMA 99 in Paris provided the venue for the unveiling of "propack", a system for targeted influencing of the contact pressure during the winding process.
