Article: Sidney Poitier to salute Dr. Martin Luther King at St. Sabina's Church

Oscar award-winning actor Sidney Poitier will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Faith Community of Saint Sabina's annual Dr. King Celebration at Christ Universal Temple, 11901 South Ashland. Proceeds from ticket sales of $100 and $50 will benefit the Saint Sabina Employment Resource Center, Social Service Center, and the Community Youth Center.

Sidney Poitier, a native of Cat Island, Bahamas, and child of tomato farmers, grew up to become an Academy Award winning actor, which he won for Lilies of the Field in 1963 and a successful director of Buck and Preacher (1971), Uptown Saturday Night (1974), Let's Do It Again (1975), A Piece of the Action (1977) and Stir Crazy (1981).
