The feisty nun from New Jersey, Sister Margherita Marchione, 81, has been named one of the "Ten Top People of 2002" in the January 2003 issue of Inside the Vatican. She is one of three women and seven men from around the world seen by Pope John Paul II as "models of Christian culture." A noted scholar, writer, educator and world traveler, Sister Margherita's contributions have benefited both Italy and the United States.
Born to Italian immigrant parents in the United States, Sister Margherita joined a convent at age 13 and later earned her Ph.D. at Columbia University, where she was named a Garibaldi Scholar and a Fulbright Scholar. She is Professor Emerita of Italian Language and ...
