Article: Prime downtown corner could lose Paul Harris

After gracing a prominent downtown corner for less than two years, the Paul Harris flagship store could be on the verge of closing.

Speculation abounds in downtown real estate circles that cash-strapped Paul Harris Stores Inc., which recently announced it had fired about 25 percent of its corporate headquarters staff, may have to shutter the 18,000-square-foot store at 11 S. Meridian St.

However, none of the sources contacted last weekincluding Mayor Bart Peterson Press Secretary Steve Campbell-said they had heard any conclusive word on the fate of the store, which opened in November 1998 and was partially converted to a J. Peterman store 10 months later.
