Doppler current profilers are becoming progressively smaller, better, and easier to use. Their first generation, dating to the early 1980s, required two people to carry each unit. The second generation, introduced in the early 1990s, cut both the size and cost in half. Nortek's third generation Aquadopp Current Profiler continues this trend, cutting the size and cost by yet another factor of two.
