Decade of growth for western coal
The last 10 years have seen the global kaolin industry affected by several factors.
There has been increased competition from alternative minerals, especially ground calcium carbonate and precipitated calcium carbonate.
The development of Brazil's kaolin industry has resulted in exports of more than 900 kt (990,000 st) of high-quality material in 1998. In addition, the Asian ceramic market has expanded significantly.
