Tacit knowledge underlies most competitive capabilities. It plays a crucial role in developing new products and services. Today's knowledgedriven economy requires special attention to this unarticulated layer of knowledge that shapes the decision-making process.
No one can capture and codify tacit knowledge in software, hardware, and processes.
There are, however, great difficulties in grasping the practical significance of tacit knowledge. This is because it is hatched of experience, is often nonverbal, and is even subconscious in nature.
Failure to recognize and use this intellectual asset squanders corporate advantage.
