Article: Chloride process successfully recovers silver at the itos plant in Bolivia

The Itos mill at Oruro, Bolivia, proves that the acid-ferric chloride leaching is a substitute for cyanide in recovery of silver from certain ores. The plant has been operating four years on the tailings of the former flotation plant of Corporation Minera de Bolivia (Comibol) at Oruro, 170 mi south of La Paz. Ores extracted from the Itos and San Jose mines contained complex silver sulfosalts, which were largely refractory to both flotation and cyanidation recovery.
