A mixed picture of retail sales trends emerged from the main reports on retail sales for September and the third quarter of this year. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported a continuing level of growth in sales, while the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) said that sales volumes grew in September at the slowest annual rate for 17 months, which could be partly attributed to September's fuel crisis.
