One of the oldest Black-owned businesses in Pittsburgh is in danger of closing its doors for good and a group of concerned Homewood citizens are trying to prevent this from happening.
Meadow Lanes in Home-wood began its life in 1941 as Hillview Lanes in a Hill District basement. Since 1975 it has been a fixture in Home-wood. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony nearly 30 years ago, ownership partner Ted Page, a former outfielder for the Homestead Grays and Pittsburgh Crawfords, said he hoped in 20 years the business would be "an inspiration to other Blacks to get together and do something."
For a while it was, but now Meadow Lanes may go the way of the trolley.
