Providence - Research on the isolation and characterization of hair follicle stem cells is helping to unlock information about their genetic profile and may lead to a better understanding of hair cycle control and related diseases.

Scientists are studying the hair follicle stem cells and comparing them with their "daughter" cells to determine what signals control the hair follicle stem cells' actions, according to Robert M. Lavker, Ph.D, director of dermatology research and professor of dermatology, Department of Dermatology, Fineberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, in Chicago.
