It seems like yesterday when heart disease was considered one of the last of the impenetrable glass ceilings, it wasn't as if women were begging to be let in.
Heart disease was a man's problem; women need not apply. The symptoms and causes of heart disease, most acutely seen during heart attack, were studied, qualified, and defined by the medical profession in the context of men and their experience.
Instruments, arterial leads, and medication regimens all had men in mind. Even the exercise protocol for the treadmill was called "Bruce."
Today, that protocol could be called "Abby" or "Susan" or "Better-Late-Than-Never." One in five females in the United States has some form of cardiovascular ...
