ANSI Z244.1-2003 vs. OSHA 1910.147: A Comparison

ASSE is the new secretariat of ANSI Z244.1-2003, Control of Hazardous Energy LOTO and Alternative Methods. National Safety Council (NSC) was secretariat for approximately 30 years; ASSE became the official secretariat via ANSI approval in January 2004.

History

In 1970, NSC initiated the first ANSI Z244 Accredited Standards Committee (ASC), which addressed lockout programs. In March 1973, the Z244 ASC held its first organizational meeting in New York to develop a standard on lockout/tagout (LOTO). After many meetings and drafts, the Z244 ASC published the first version of Z244.1 on Mar. 8, 1982.
