Shell's Bintulu GTL Plant Set To Restart In May

Shell's pioneering "Middle Distillate Synthesis" (SMDS) GTL plant in Bintulu (Sarawak), Malaysia, is now scheduled to come back on- line in May, two years and four months after a disastrous explosion in its air separation unit on Christmas Day, 1997.

ASU makers Air Liquide confirmed to Gas-to-Liquids News that a new ASU has indeed been delivered to Bintulu in several pieces.

While Shell officials wouldn't comment on details of the ASU deliveries, "suffice to say it will be delivered on time for the scheduled start-up," according to a Shell official familiar with the reconstruction project.
