The new millennium may have arrived, but, from a government relations perspective, this is a new year with the same old problems. The practice of nuclear medicine depends on many things, but the two basic facts essential to the survival of nuclear medicine are that isotopes must be available and adequate payment must be received for diagnosis and treatment. Without the isotopes, the radiopharmaceuticals needed in common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures will not be available. Patients will not get the treatment that might diagnose their illnesses early enough to increase chances for survival, nor will they receive the therapeutic treatments that have shown such promise in a host of ...
