Gamer Blizzard Dodges Vivendi Cuts

It's nice being the favorite child- just ask Irvine video game maker Blizzard Entertainment Inc.

Earlier this year, rumors were swirling about Blizzard's status under struggling parent Los Angeles-based Vivendi Universal Games Inc.

Vivendi's video game sales sank 28% to about $700 million last year and the company reported an operating loss of $250 million. A year earlier, Vivendi had posted a profit of 7 $77 million.

The problem: a lack of hit games.
