Urticaria possible symptom of serious illness

Englewood, Colo.-Accordingto new medical guidelines developed by a task force of allergists, as many as 15 percent to 24 percent of the U.S. population will experience urticaria during their lifetime, which can be symptoms of an allergic reaction, a common viral infection, or a serious illness.

The guidelines- titled"The Diagnosis and Management of Urticaria: A Practice Parameter" - are published as a supplement to the December issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the scientific journal of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
