David Wilhelm's newest restaurant-Rouge at Fashion Island in Newport Beach-is a true bistro, French to the core.
So it's no surprise that it features plenty of red (hence the name) and rich, dark wood.
David promised a compelling French-flavored bar and he came through. All the walls of the back bar are pure red, with the unique shapes and colors of the liquor bottles yielding a freewheeling bit of art.
Along the walls and against a waist-high partition through the middle of one section, there are booths with curvaceous accents, upholstered in red leather, of course. Lighting speaks of French ...
