Anterior Segment Techniques
More than 50 million Americans suffer from some form of ocular allergy. It is one of the most common conditions of the ocular surface and it is important to differentiate it from other conditions such as blepharitis or dry eye.
The pathophysiology of allergy includes the role of inflammatory cells such as mast cells, eosinophils, and others, and their mediators. A variety of agents are available that target the allergic response by stabilizing mast cells, blocking histamine, and decreasing chemotaxis and activation of eosinophils.
